Lesson 17: What's happy got to do with it?

In our culture, we want to feel happy. We think we SHOULD feel happy, but so little about how we live our lives actually leads us to feeling joy.

When was the last time you sat down to think about what truly brings you joy?

Are you judging yourself by someone else thoughts and desires? Is it so frustrating that you've given up?

Do you even remember what brings you joy? Did you ever have the freedom to explore that?

Are you allowing that for your kids?

Some of us will automatically respond to the question, “What brings you joy”, with something like, “I like spending time with my family.” That may be true, but do you love it? What specifically do you love? Could you love it more if....? Is it truly, deeply something that brings you great joy or just what you’ve come to understand is your responsibility?

It’s okay either way, and this is my point; if you are not happy then something is off and it's your job to find out and change what’s happening so more of your experience is in alignment with what brings you joy.

If something tragic just happened, well give yourself some time to consciously process that, otherwise, it’s time to ask yourself why?

What?

Where?

Who?

Yes. We rely so much on others for our joy; we let their attitude dictate whether we will have a good day or not. We allow their wants and needs to feel like we are being pushed around and sucked dry, but we are not. We are allowing it.

Someone wise once shared with me that she sings while she does household chores. In truth, she does not enjoy them, but she will not allow something like that to control the peace of her soul. She sings because she loves to sing and singing makes any job more joyful for her.

What makes your day happier?

You know the truth for yourself, it may be buried down inside, but you DO know.

We so rarely take the time to sit and think logically, or release our thoughts to the wind and listen with our heart.

If you are in a funk it’s because something is not congruent, and something in your life and actions is going against the tide that wants to swoosh you into peaceful living. You have it in you to live more simply and live with more joy but you have to decide if you’re going to row, or coast and bump along the side of someone else waves.
